The Epistle of James is the most Jewish book in the NT. Except for two or three references to Christ, it would fit rather well in the OT. The life to which the epistle exhorts is that of a profoundly pious Jew who is fulfilling the law in every regard. Gospel, redemption, incarnation, and resurrection are not mentioned. It is ironic that Read (), the influential English art critic, champion of surrealism and abstraction, greatly resented the role of critic. He was full of contradictions: a pacifist, he fough.

Authorship. According to Robert J. Foster, "there is little consensus as to the genre, structure, dating, and authorship of the book of James." There are four "commonly espoused" views concerning authorship and dating of the Epistle of James: the letter was written by James before the Pauline epistles,; the letter was written by James after the Pauline epistles.
